Neil Smith, an e-risk expert, is based at Visa's Dubai office where he moved from Visa London. His key objective is to strengthen the technology risk and fraud team in the region and has been with Visa Central Europe, Middle East and Africa since 1999. He moved from a fraud detection and response role to implement and develop the region's first technology risk department in 2001.

Neil brings in-depth knowledge of chip, electronic and mobile commerce issues to the region. His role encompasses the development of technology risk and fraud detection amongst member banks and corporations across the CEMEA region, with a special focus on the Middle East.

He frequently speaks at technology conferences and seminars to enhance awareness of the financial and technology community about advances in fraud control and emerging technology risk.

Before joining Visa, Neil worked with First Data Resources, an international third party processing company implementing neural networks for the Falcon fraud detection system. He was tasked with product management and with growing the company's business relationships. Between 1995 and 1998, he held various risk management positions at the Royal Bank of Scotland's credit card centre.
