Linksys's new wireless high definition media player

Linksys has introduced its new Networked DVD and Media Player (KiSS 1600). Based on award-winning technology, the KiSS 1600 provides consumers with an enhanced media experience by bringing high definition video, audio, pictures and other forms of digital content to a user’s television, entertainment center, or both.

“As a pioneer and recognised leader in the connected home market, Linksys is continuing to bring solutions to market which help provide consumers with simple, seamless and satisfying entertainment experiences,” said Mohammad Hoda, Linksys Regional Manager Middle East and Africa. “The Linksys Networked DVD and Media Player is an example of our connected home strategy, where all devices are designed to work together to help simplify access and control of content through one simple intuitive interface. By utilising the home network as a platform, Linksys is providing consumers with a truly enriched digital entertainment experience.”

The Linksys KiSS 1600 was designed to create a seamless digital entertainment experience for consumers. The KiSS 1600 has networking capabilities and an easy-to-use interface to access, view and play a variety of digital media formats on a television or entertainment center. Content can come from the Internet, or from devices attached to the home network. Additionally, the DVD player will upscale standard definition DVDs to 720p resolution to provide a high definition video experience using the HDMI connection.

Networking Capabilities

With integrated wireless 802.11G and Ethernet networking capabilities, the KiSS 1600 enables users to access and stream media files from a PC, NAS or other devices on a home network and view the content on a television or flat panel display. In addition, the player is equipped with a USB port to connect, view and play content stored on external hard drives, MP3 players, USB memory sticks or digital cameras.

Additionally, the KiSS 1600 DVD and media player is designed to harness the power of the Internet. With its leading edge Internet connectivity capabilities, users can access the Linksys online service which includes Internet radio stations, online gaming, among other applications and services. The KiSS 1600 bridges the traditional PC and CE divide by enabling users to the bring Internet content to a home theatre system

Easy to Use Interface

The KiSS 1600 comes equipped with an intuitive, easy-to-use interface to quickly and efficiently navigate through content stored on a variety of devices that reside on a home network.

Linksys KiSS 1600 features:

 Video formats: DVD, Windows Media 9 HD, Windows Media 9, H.264/AVC, MPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX 3.11, DivX 4, DivX 5, Nero Digital, XviD

 Audio formats: CD, WMA, WMA9-Pro3, AAC-LC, MP3, Ogg Vorbis

 Displays JPEG, PNG. GIF and BMP images

 Built-in WLAN 802.11g connection for cable-free access to a home PC or the Internet

 Ethernet 10/100 connection

 USB 2.0 connection

 HDMI 1.2 connection (upscaling to 720p) with HDCP

 WebRadio 3 with more than 3,000 radio stations

 Online games

 PC-Link

 Windows Media Connect and Windows Media DRM (Janus)
